San Diego based violinist, Angela Xing, is a seasoned and passionate educator with over six years of experience teaching private and group lessons. She has helped students at all skill levels, from complete beginners to graduate-level violinists at music conservatories. Regardless of your aspirations in music, Ms. Xing can help you meet and exceed your goals.
While pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts, Ms. Xing taught music major students from the Eastman of Music at undergraduate and graduate levels. She instructed undergraduate students who were preparing for juries, seniors who were auditioning for graduate schools, and students preparing for orchestra auditions and concerto competitions. Her students were successfully admitted to top-rated graduate music programs such as the Carnegie Mellon School of Music.
In addition to music major students, Ms. Xing also taught non-music major students at the University of Rochester looking to fulfill secondary instrument requirements. Using a combination of assessment skills and review of recorded lessons, she was able to improve both technical and musical aspects of their playing significantly. Her students have received runner up awards for university concerto competitions, despite the fact that they were majoring in other non-music fields.
Aside from teaching at university, Ms. Xing also worked at the Eastman Community Music School, where she taught students from diverse backgrounds, such as violin beginners of all ages and students with learning disabilities. She was able to help them lay a good foundation, including proper violin and bow holding, as well as establishing a sense of intonation. For students with learning disabilities, she provided alternative means to improve their concentration, intonation, and aural skills. Her students held leading positions in school orchestras and have been successfully admitted to music festivals.
Ms. Xing is an active performer and teacher. After having graduated in December 2017, she moved to San Diego and started her music engagements in the area. She joined the La Jolla Symphony orchestra and the Palomar Symphony Orchestra. She is currently playing chamber music with pianist Weiyi Xu and cellist Anna Piland. Furthermore, she is part of the faculty at Fortissimo, an orchestra program for young artists in San Marcos.
